An occupied brothel in New Hampshire, 1776

The revolutionary wars
 

 

 

Just outside the town of Hilltown lies Satin Dreams, a respectable brothel that is often visited by the area's wealthy people and travelers. 
Things have been uncertain since New Hampshire was thrown into the rebellion against the English rulers. Now the redcoats are marching toward Hilltown, one of the Patriots' headquarters in the state.

A group of Loyalist soldiers take over Satin Dreams and settle in as they plan the attack and wait to be reunited with the rest of their army.

 

What’s the situation at the larp?

 

The soldiers have taken over the brothel and no guests are allowed to (or wish to?) visit while they are there.

 

Satin Dreams is a house of many people from different backgrounds and cultures. They have their hierarchies and intrigues. Friendship and conflict, but also a strong sisterhood.

When the soldiers occupy their home and attack their city, another dimension is suddenly added.

"Them vs. Us".

Most people who live at Satin Dreams are Patriots, but they need to make money and not provoke their occupants. Who knows how long the war and occupation of their city will last, and winter is coming soon ...

 

The occupiers consist mainly of soldiers. Most of them know each other and/or have fought together before. They are brothers and friends, but also have to deal with hierarchy and friction within the group. At Satin Dreams they are surrounded by sensuality and beauty, but soon they must march into battle ...

 

 

Is this larp for me? 
 

 

We will be playing on:

 

• Prostitution
   

• Sexism, toxic masculinity
   

• Solidarity between women / friendship and trust

• Conversations about war / violence / atrocities / death anxiety

• Having to obey authority (Brothel staff answer to the Madam, the soldiers to the commander).
   

• Being in a «state of emergency»
   

• Suppressed fear / anger and the effort of hiding it

• Using sexuality as a weapon/tool

 
 

 

To attend, you must be ok with:

 

• Seeing partial nudity (no one are required to undress, but you must be comfortable seeing others do so)
   

• As an occupier, you will have to play on being exploitative and potentially unpleasant to the women. Things that actually suck, not just «good-natured» 1950s chauvinism.

 

• Coarse language and humor
   

• Getting slapped / slapping someone on the bum. (You can "opt out", see details under Practical).
   

• Being touched (except intimate zones / ‘bikini area’). Or touch others. Applies to both genders.
   

• That pedophilia / abuse in may appear in character backgrounds.
   

• Sit on someone’s lap / have someone sitting your lap

 

Of course, you always have a choice of what you want to participate in. (See safety rules). But you have to be comfortable with these topics in general.

 

 

What characterises the two groups?

 

At this larp we want to portray a more unusual female community. A separate "world" where men don’t make the decicions, but women have their own power structure, relationships, sisterhood and humour/in-jokes. When the women are together, they can be themselves, but with the men they put on a "mask" and play a role. Afterwards, they can go back to their sisters and talk honestly about what it was like this time. Get sympathy, laugh together and gossip about or bad-mouth the men, share experiences and find the way back to their own self.

One of our visions is that the «happy whore» does not excist at Satin Dreams. There are several tragic fates or complicated reasons why they are here. Everyone has their own survival strategies / «personas» with the customers.

 

With the soldiers we want to portray:

A macho environment where you don’t show the others your true feelings if they do not fit the image of a tough man. You cannot show your friends that you are scared to die, but you can cry in the arms of a whore.

A brotherhood for better or worse. "Bros before hoes". A soldiers trusts his brother's word above all others.

They talk to "the boys" about their experiences with the ladies. Objectify them together. (Group mentality).

One doesn’t want to lose face, to be laughed at/belittled in front of the women.

Interaction between groups:

Although the soldiers are occupiers, we want both groups to be equally proactive. It is not just the soldiers' responsibility to create play with the brothel staff. They may have many reasons to seek out the soldiers’ company. Like getting money from them, keeping the peace, finding them exciting, wanting to spy on the Patriots, being bored, wanting goodwill, etc.

 

The guests need to find ways to interact with staff other than just sex. Have them  entertain you, play party games, board games etc. with them, get someone to dance for you, make bets, find someone to trust, blow off steam with someone or take your frustrations out on them.

 We strongly encourage sensual play that isn’t straight up sex. That BOTH parties can initiate:

Stripping, dancing, massaging people, sitting on someone’s lap / nook of their arm and caressing, "lucky charm" in games, etc.
